Oven Temperature Tips
Understanding Oven Temperatures
Different countries use different temperature scales. American recipes typically use Fahrenheit (°F), European and Australian recipes use Celsius (°C), and older British recipes often use Gas Mark settings.
Fan/Convection Oven Adjustment
If using a fan-assisted or convection oven, reduce the temperature by about 20°C (35°F) or one Gas Mark from the recipe's stated temperature, or reduce cooking time by about 10%.
Common Baking Temperatures
- 325°F / 165°C / Gas 3: Slow roasting, delicate cakes
- 350°F / 180°C / Gas 4: Most cakes, cookies, casseroles
- 375°F / 190°C / Gas 5: Cookies, pies, roast chicken
- 400°F / 200°C / Gas 6: Bread, pizza, roast vegetables
- 425°F / 220°C / Gas 7: Bread crusts, crispy roasts
- 450°F / 230°C / Gas 8: Pizza, focaccia, high-heat roasting
